Dorset SAIL (Safe And Independent Living)
The Chief Executives of Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset Local Authorities, along with the Chief Officers of Fire, Police, and Health services across the county, all signed up to commit to a proposal that will go some way towards ensuring that those aged 50+, and potentially vulnerable individuals, will be able to receive support from a number of agencies to access services that will improve their safety and independence.
A pilot was undertaken in 2010 engaging the front line/visiting staff of a selected number of partner agencies in completing a referral form with the individual clients that they are in contact with (see most recent version below).
The pilot project was only undertaken across Dorset County Council area.
Information was left with the client so they had a record of the action being taken, and could phone for reassurance/progress check if necessary.
The referral form was returned to a co-ordinator who ensured that the referral was forwarded to the appropriate agency (or agencies) for action
The co-ordinator monitored the progress of referrals and the outputs of the pilot.
The intention was that not only will those clients completing a form be able to better access services and support, but we should all be able to 'increase our reach', improve partnership working, and reduce duplication.
The pilot was deemed successful and the project has now been rolled out across both Poole and Bournemouth Borough Council areas.
