Princes Trust

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) have had a long association with Princes Trust. We have been a franchise holder for the delivery of the Team programme for 15 years.
 
Being a franchise holder requires us to deliver the 12 week personal development programme within the guidelines set down by The Princes Trust and the Learning and Skills Council. Since 1997 we have put nearly 1,500 young people aged 16 to 25yrs of age through the programme and assisted them to move onto a positive outcome, be that work, education and training or volunteering. We are continually one of the highest performing franchises in the South West Region and have received a number of awards for the quality of our programme coming up to our 100th Team
 
Team is a 12 week development programmes with Princes Trust Certificate in Employment, Teamwork and Community Skills that can be achieved at Entry Level 3, Level 1 or Level 2 = GCSE.　
Young people join a team of up to 13 participants. During the 12 week programme, Team members:
  • Spend a week away at a residential activity centre
  • Undertake a project based in their local community
  • Complete a work placement
  • Participate in a team challenge, involving caring for others
  • As well as gaining important employability skills
  • Stage a team presentation, during which they recount their experiences.
Young people are recruited from different backgrounds and the Trust targets those who are:
  • Long term unemployed
  • In or leaving the care system
  • Young offenders
  • Educational underachievers.
Teams for 2013 will be running from all areas of Dorset and fortunately we are able to run 10 teams throughout the year, maximising our chance to work with as many young people as possible. Dates confirmed so far are:
  • Highcliffe/Christchurch – 14th January
  • Weymouth - 28th January (our 100th team!)
  • Bridport – 11th February
  • Poole – 25th February
  • Bournemouth - 7th May
  • Poundbury - 20th May
  • Weymouth - 3rd June
  • Blandford - 17th June
