working in partnership to make Dorset safer

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service is committed to equal opportunities.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service employs Wholetime and On-Call (Retained) Firefighters. We also employ Control Room Operators based at our Service Headquarters, in Dorchester and non-uniformed support staff.

Unfortunately, we are unable to keep a list of prospective applicants or hold any details on file. Therefore, you need to apply as and when a suitable vacancy arises.

Non-Uniformed Staff

Non-uniformed personnel are employed to provide general and more specialised support throughout Dorset Fire and Rescue Service, for example in:
  • finance
  • personnel
  • communications and
  • information technology.

Control Room Staff

The main function of the fire control room is the answering of emergency calls from members of the public and other organisations. Fire control staff send resources to those incidents and service any additional requirements they may have whilst maintaining fire cover across the county.

Opportunities for temporary posts may occur within this team and if vacancies arise information is placed on this website.
