Dorset Fire Authority have made a scheme for the payment of allowances to elected members. The scheme is for the financial year beginning 1 April 2013. The scheme takes into account the recommendations of local independent remuneration panels. These include provision of Basic Allowances, Special Responsibility Allowances and Co-optees Allowance. The allowances are to increased by the same percentage as any national pay award for local government employees for a period of four years with effect from 1 April 2010. The main features of the scheme for 2013/14 and the amounts payable are:
- Basic Allowance payable to all elected members £3,550
- Special Responsibility Allowances payable to: Chairman of the Dorset Fire Authority £5,900, Vice-Chairman of the Dorset Fire Authority £2,950, Chairman of the Audit and Scrutiny Committee £2,950, and Leader of the Second Largest Group (currently £950).
- Co-optees Allowance £250 per annum.
- Dependent Carers’ Allowance of up to £7.00 per hour.
- Travelling Allowance of 45p per mile.
