Reporting a Hydrant Defect

Help us

Hydrant marker posts or plates help fire-fighters to quickly identify the location of fire hydrants, sadly these occasionally get vandalised or damaged.  When missing or obscured it could waste valuable minutes in locating a hydrant and could potentially cost lives or increase the amount of damage a fire can cause.

Fire Hydrant marker posts are sometimes painted yellow. The fire hydrant access cover may also be painted yellow and should be marked with the letters FH.

We encourage contact from the general public in relation to problems or enquiries about Fire Hydrants. Reports of any damaged /leaking Fire Hydrants or related equipment are dealt with swiftly and the hydrant inspected and repaired as soon as possible.
  • If you wish to report a problem please either telephone 01305 252633, email tomina.collier@forsetfire.gov.uk or complete our  form for Non-Urgent Hydrant Defects (currently under development).
  • Please contact the Assets Systems Officer on 01305 252633 if you have concerns that a Fire hydrant may be being used illegally.
  • For requests concerning the relocation of a Fire Hydrant marker post, please telephone 01305 252633 or email tomina.collier@dorset.gov.uk.

  • We offer a non chargeable private hydrant inspection to maintain and test these hydrants.  For further information  please telephone  01305 252633, or email tomina.collier@dorsetfire.gov.uk.
