working in partnership to make Dorset safer

We continue to lead an exciting joint project with Dorset Police under the Government's Private Finance Initiative (PFI). The project involves the replacement of fire stations in Poole and Dorchester with new purpose built joint command facility for both police and fire, incorporating a new police station and offices for the area command of both emergency services.

The Government is supporting the project through the provision of capital finance under PFI. The scheme is dependent on securing this funding from the Home Office and ODPM.

After an open bidding process under EU rules a "preferred bidder" has been selected and we are currently in detailed negotiations. Construction of the new stations and offices commenced in 2006 with completion of the two fire stations in 2007 and the joint command facility and police station in 2008.

A collaborative project to provide the Fire, Police and Ambulance Services with joint operational facilities for Lyme Regis was completed in May 2004. The scheme involved the alteration and adaption of the existing fire station to provide modern operational facilities for fire and police whilst ambulance crews have access to the new building's rest and welfare accommodation. The new building was funded by all three emergency services.
